What it is

Gamma is an AI-native presentation, document, and webpage creator. Unlike PowerPoint or Google Slides, Gamma was built with AI from the ground up — you describe what you want, and it generates a complete, professionally designed presentation in under 60 seconds.

What makes Gamma different from traditional presentation tools:

  • Start with AI: Type a brief, choose a style, and get a full deck instantly
  • Cards, not slides: Content is organised in “cards” that flow naturally — works as a presentation, a web page, or a scrollable document
  • Live web format: Gamma presentations can be shared as live links (like a website), not just as files
  • Mobile-optimised by default: The output looks good on phones, not just desktop projector screens
  • AI throughout: Every element — rewrite, expand, condense, change style — is AI-assisted

What you’d use it for

  • Quick pitch decks and business presentations
  • Client proposals and project briefs
  • Team and company updates
  • Educational content and lesson plans
  • Product launch materials
  • Replacing slide decks in contexts where a shared link works better than a file

How to sign up + first 5 minutes from Australia

  1. Go to https://gamma.appSign up free
  2. Sign in with Google or email
  3. Click NewGenerate with AI
  4. Type your brief: “A 10-slide pitch deck for a café loyalty app targeting independent Melbourne cafés”
  5. Choose a visual theme (15+ options)
  6. Click Generate — 30–60 seconds later, your deck is done
  7. Click any card to edit — text, images, colours — everything is editable
  8. Click Share to get a live link, or Export to download as PDF or .pptx

Your first 400 AI credits are free — enough for several complete presentations.

How it compares to alternatives

ToolBest for
GammaFastest AI generation; web-native sharing; non-designers
TomeNarrative storytelling; visually distinctive format
Beautiful.aiMost polished templates; smart auto-layout
Canva PresentationsDesign flexibility; brand kits; widest template library
PowerPoint + CopilotEnterprise; most compatible with corporate workflows
Google Slides + AIGoogle Workspace users; real-time collaboration
PitchCollaboration-first; startup culture

Gamma’s key advantages: fastest to a complete deck, best for sharing as a web link, and excellent for non-designers who want professional output without design work.

Privacy / data handling

  • Data stored on AWS
  • SOC 2 Type II certification in progress (verify current status at gamma.app/security)
  • GDPR compliant
  • AI generation powered by third-party LLMs (not disclosed precisely; likely OpenAI/Anthropic)
  • Content you generate is not used to train AI models per Gamma’s terms
  • Free plan content may be subject to broader terms than paid plans — review TOS if sharing sensitive content

Gotchas

  • Free credits run out quickly. 400 credits sounds like a lot, but a full deck generation uses ~40–80 credits. You get maybe 5–10 complete AI generations free.
  • Export quality varies. The .pptx export sometimes loses fonts or layout details. Test before a critical presentation.
  • Gamma branding on free plan. Share links show “Made with Gamma” on free. Paid plans remove this.
  • Content is auto-generated — not research. Gamma generates plausible-sounding text based on your brief, but it doesn’t know your actual data. Replace all AI-generated facts, numbers, and claims with your real content.
  • Web-format presentations require internet. Unlike a .pptx file, Gamma’s native format requires a web connection. For presentations in venues with unreliable Wi-Fi, export to PDF first.
  • Limited animation options. Gamma’s transitions are simple compared to PowerPoint or Keynote. If you need sophisticated animations, it’s not the right tool.

Recent changes (LIVING)

  • Gamma AI (2023): Full AI generation capability launched — the core differentiator.
  • Import from PowerPoint (2023): Convert existing decks to Gamma format.
  • Gamma Pages (2024): Use Gamma to create simple web pages / landing pages, not just presentations.
  • Team workspaces (2024): Shared brand kits and team content management.
