This guide walks you through signing up for ElevenLabs, the leading AI voice synthesis platform. ElevenLabs lets you generate natural-sounding speech from text in 30+ languages, with hundreds of voices, and can clone voices (with appropriate consent).

Step-by-step

Step 1 — Go to elevenlabs.io

Open https://elevenlabs.io in your browser.

Click Sign up (top right). Sign up options:

Step 3 — Verify your email

Check your email for a verification link; click it.

Step 4 — Welcome to the dashboard

You’ll land on ElevenLabs’ dashboard. Free tier gives you 10,000 characters per month — enough to generate roughly 10 minutes of audio.

Step 5 — Generate your first AI voice

Click Speech Synthesis (or Text to Speech)
Choose a voice from the dropdown — there are dozens of preset voices
Type some text in the box: “G’day! This is my first AI-generated voice. Welcome to the future.”

Text to Speech (the basics)

Generate audio from any text. Choose voice, language, tone.

Voice cloning (paid tiers)

Clone a voice from a sample. Two types:

Instant voice clone: 30 seconds to 1 minute of audio → AI voice (good quality)
Professional voice clone: Longer sample, training; very high quality

Consent is mandatory: Only clone voices with the speaker’s explicit permission. Never clone real people’s voices without consent.

Voice design

Create a brand-new synthetic voice from descriptions (e.g., “warm, mature female voice, slight British accent, calm pace”). The AI generates a unique voice that doesn’t belong to anyone real.

Speech to Speech

Speak into the AI; it outputs the same content in a different voice. Useful for dubbing or character work.
