What it is

Replit Agent is Replit’s AI app builder integrated into Replit’s long-standing in-browser development platform. Unlike Bolt or Lovable (which are AI-builder-first products), Replit Agent sits inside the Replit IDE — which has been a mature in-browser coding environment since 2016, with strong support for many languages, hosted development, and one-click deployment to Replit’s hosting.

Where Lovable is “non-coder builds an app,” Replit Agent is more “Replit user accelerates work with an agent.” Replit’s existing user base includes:

  • Educators and students (Replit has long been popular in classrooms)
  • Hobbyist developers
  • Indie hackers building side projects
  • Polyglot developers who want a “JetBrains-but-everything-runs-in-the-cloud” experience

Replit Agent adds AI agency: describe a feature, Replit Agent codes it, runs it in the Repl, debugs failures, iterates.

What you’d use it for

  • You already use Replit for hobbyist projects, education, or hosted dev
  • You want full-stack apps with hosted runtime without leaving Replit
  • You’re an educator using Replit in a classroom and want AI assistance
  • You want polyglot support — Replit handles many languages well (Python, JS/TS, Go, Rust, Ruby, etc.)
  • You want one-click deployment to Replit hosting (with auto-scaling, custom domains)
  • You’re working from a tablet / Chromebook — Replit runs entirely in browser

How to sign up + first 5 minutes from Australia

  1. Go to replit.com. Sign up with email / Google / GitHub / Apple.
  2. Free tier active immediately.
  3. Start a new Repl, choose a language or framework, give Agent a task.
  4. Try one of these:
    • “Build a Discord bot in Python that responds to /hello”
    • “Build a simple FastAPI backend with three endpoints”
    • “Build a React dashboard with charts pulling from a SQLite database”
  5. Agent runs, codes, hosts the Repl, gives you a URL.
  6. Iterate via chat.
  7. Deploy to Replit’s hosting (with custom domain on paid tiers).

Privacy / data handling

  • Free: standard Replit terms — verify before sensitive use
  • Core / Teams / Enterprise: no training on private Repl code; tenant-isolated at Teams+
  • US-hosted; data-residency options for Enterprise

Recent changes

  • 2026: Agent matured significantly; expanded language support
  • 2025: Agent v2 generally available
  • September 2024: Agent launched
  • 2016: Replit founded

Gotchas

  • Free tier hosted Repls sleep after inactivity; paid tiers have Always-On
  • Compute limits on free can be hit by complex agent tasks
  • Replit’s hosting is tied to your Replit subscription — moving off Replit means migrating to standard hosts (Vercel, Netlify, etc.)
  • Education pricing exists for verified classroom use — check education.replit.com if applicable
  • Agent quality on non-web stacks varies — works best for web; less polished for systems programming or specialised domains
  • Replit is a full IDE, not just an agent — you can use the IDE without Agent if preferred
